Now, let’s get back to the topic, shall we? Today I wanted to share something from my homeland, it’s a familiar and most popular breakfast combinations inside and outside the homes of all Keralites. Kadala curry/ Black chickpea curry in a deliciously smooth spiced roasted coconut gravy along with puttu/steamed rice cakes. If you ever happen to visit a Kerala home especially during breakfast time, you are most likely to be treated to a bowl of this simple and flavorful Kadala curry with puttu/steamed rice cakes.
Preparation Time : 20 minutes + Saoking the chickpea : overnight
Cooking time : 20 minutes
Serves : 4-6
Ingredients :
To Pressure cook :
Black Chana/Kadala/Kala Chana : 2 cups cooked (soak the dried chana in enough water for at least 8 hrs)

Whole Garam Masala : Fennel seeds – 1 tsp,
Mustard seeds : 1/2 tsp
Dry whole red chillies : 2 nos
Curry leaves : 1 sprig

How to make Kerala Kadala Curry – Puttu Kadala Curry Recipe:
1. Soak kadala/black channa over night and pressure cook them with adding enough water, little turmeric powder and salt for 5-6 whistles. Open when the pressure settles and reserve extra stock from the kadala/black chickpea for the gravy.
3. Now add the grated coconut. Saute and roast on low fire till coconut turns to medium brown in color. Remove from the fire and let it cool.

this is something am going to try, am sure my family will love this
Love kadala curry! It gives a heart-burn on over indulgence though! In our house the leftover goes with bread, rice or anything that needs a spicy company. I like the new take on the traditional recipe. Keep blogging!
Thanks ALL for the feedback 🙂 Really appreciate it.
Cheers!
